Asian Art Museum Storyteller, Miriam Mills, engages pre-school students in the museum’s Korea galleries by telling a Korean folktale about a tiger and a puppy using artworks from the Asian Art Museum’s collection.

Students brainstorm the qualities of good and evil and draw conclusions about the Balinese concept of “dynamic” or balanced opposites. Then, students will relate the idea of “dynamic opposites” in the Ramayana (Story of Rama) to present-day situations by identifying a current problem, creating a visual identify for their own pair of opposing characters, and scripting a dialogue.

Objective: Students will consider their unique identities and be introduced to intersectionality using Bernice Bing’s experiences to illustrate the many aspects of identity and oppression. 

Objective: Students will investigate and research the history of arts organizations and their contributions in the Bay Area.

Objective: Students will explore primary documents, like Chiura Obata’s paintings, to understand the severity of the 1906 SF Earthquake.

Students will consider the ways art can be used as activism in the context of Environmentalism and National Park Preservation.
